What a beautiful, full-bodied Chardonnay from the acclaimed 2020 vintage! A heavyweight at 15% alcohol, but beautifully integrated. Thanks to its location just below Mâcon, this wine enjoys abundant sunshine. Yet, it retains a fresh but powerful flavor with a lovely roundness. Highly recommended! Perfect as an aperitif with hummus, as only Viré-Clessé seems suitable for the amount of garlic we use. Indulgence begins on the nose with aromas of flowers and acacia, accompanied by plenty of sunny confit yellow fruit. Oily juice with thick legs and a peppery kick in the finish. A true crowd-pleaser, as revealed in our latest tasting.
Ideal as an aperitif and with creamy cheeses. Delicious when paired with a well-cooked piece of fatty fish or white meat. In short, it’s culinary versatile!
The southern located Montbarbon estate was founded in 2008 by Martine and Jacky Montbarbon, former employees of Cave de Viré. Their focus has always been on highlighting the terroirs of Viré-Clessé. They have passed this passion and dedication on to Jean-Jacques, who has been in charge of the Domaine since 2022. His goal remains unchanged: to create rich wines with respect for the terroirs and the environment. They choose vinification in oak barrels and let them age for 9 to 12 months on fine lees, resulting in full and oily wines that are very versatile in culinary use. In 2022, he was honored as the best talent of the Mâconnais with the prestigious GJPV Young Talents Trophy.
